Reporting directly to the General Manager, this role plays a key part in ensuring the care home's facilities, operations, compliance standards, and support departments are managed effectively to provide a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for residents and staff.

This position combines operational leadership, facilities management, compliance oversight, contractor coordination, and people management responsibilities across multiple departments, including Housekeeping, Reception, Kitchen, and Maintenance.

What is expected of you?

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Maintenance, Housekeeping, Reception, and Kitchen departments
  • Lead and support departmental supervisors and team members to ensure high service standards are maintained
  • Coordinate and oversee maintenance activities, repairs, and general upkeep of the care home facilities
  • Implement and monitor preventative maintenance schedules to ensure the premises remain fully operational
  • Carry out regular fire safety checks, Legionella checks, building inspections, and other compliance-related activities
  • Organise departmental cleaning schedules and quality control audits to ensure operational effectiveness
  • Conduct spot checks and inspections to maintain high standards across all operational areas
  • Coordinate mandatory and operational training programmes in collaboration with the HR department
  • Manage external contractors and service providers, including landscaping, cleaning services, fire safety systems, nurse call systems, and food delivery providers
  • Ensure the care home environment remains clean, safe, comfortable, and welcoming for residents and visitors
  • Identify, document, and report maintenance issues, safety hazards, and operational risks to senior management
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, audits, training activities, and compliance documentation
  • Liaise with Head Office, Finance, and management regarding procurement requirements while ensuring adherence to company procurement policies
  • Participate in recruitment activities, interviews, onboarding, and workforce planning for departments under your supervision
  • Hold regular departmental meetings and support employee engagement and performance management initiatives
  • Oversee apprentices and students undertaking placements within the care home
  • Support the overall management of the care home and assume operational responsibilities alongside the Nurse Manager during the absence of the General Manager

What are you expected to bring?

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Facilities Management, Operations Management, Property Management, Hospitality Operations, or a similar leadership role
  • Strong understanding of facilities operations, compliance, health and safety, and contractor management
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and compliance standards; familiarity with care home regulations and OPSA standards will be considered an asset
  • Previous experience managing multiple departments and coordinating cross-functional teams
  • Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing priorities effectively
  • Experience managing budgets, procurement processes, and operational expenditure
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to respond effectively in emergency situations
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with residents, families, staff, contractors, and stakeholders
  • Fluent written and spoken English and Maltese
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and administrative record keeping
