Assistant Production Manager

Our client is seeking an Assistant Production Manager to join their Production team in Malta. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced production professional with a background in a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment who is looking to take the next step in their career.

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will play a key role in supporting day-to-day production operations, ensuring compliance with GMP standards, and driving operational efficiency across the manufacturing process.

The successful candidate will combine strong leadership, technical knowledge, and organisational skills to support production planning, continuous improvement initiatives, and the delivery of high-quality products in line with regulatory requirements.

What is expected of you?

• Support the Production Manager in the day-to-day management of the Production Department
• Coordinate production activities to ensure manufacturing schedules are achieved safely, efficiently, and on time
• Allocate tasks and oversee production personnel to ensure smooth execution of daily operations
• Monitor the full production cycle from manufacturing planning through to final product delivery to the warehouse
• Review production documentation, manufacturing records, and batch documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and GMP compliance
• Prepare, review, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), manufacturing instructions, and production documentation
• Ensure production activities comply with EU GMP, FDA requirements, and internal quality standards
• Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team on deviations, CAPAs, investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Support production validations, equipment qualifications, and process optimisation activities
• Work closely with Warehouse, Quality Control, Research & Development, and other departments to ensure efficient production planning and execution
• Monitor departmental KPIs and support the Production Manager in achieving operational objectives
• Assist with performance management, training, coaching, and development of production personnel
• Ensure production staff follow health and safety procedures and wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Identify opportunities for process improvements, operational efficiencies, and implementation of best practices
• Troubleshoot production issues and support the implementation of corrective actions to minimise downtime
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Production Manager in line with business requirements

What are we looking for?

• Degree in a STEM-related discipline, Pharmacy, or an equivalent qualification
• Minimum of four years' experience within a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment, preferably in Production, Quality Assurance, or Qualified Person (QP) functions
• Strong knowledge of EU GMP guidelines and pharmaceutical manufacturing processes
• Experience reviewing production documentation, batch records, SOPs, and manufacturing procedures
• Understanding of CAPAs, deviations, process validation, and continuous improvement methodologies
• Strong organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• Ability to prioritise workload and perform effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
