Junior Associate (Fintech and Financial Services)

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated legal or regulatory professional to join the growing Fintech & Financial Services practice of a leading business law firm in Malta.

Working closely with senior professionals, the successful candidate will support clients on complex legal and regulatory matters involving fintech, crypto-assets, digital assets, payments, e-money, and licensing applications.

The role is ideal for someone who enjoys legal research, analysing emerging regulatory frameworks, and developing practical solutions within a rapidly evolving industry.

What is expected of you?

• Conduct legal and regulatory research relating to crypto-assets, digital assets, fintech, and financial services
• Prepare legal memoranda, opinions, regulatory guidance, and other client-facing documentation
• Support clients with matters relating to MiCA, PSD2, EMD2, payments, and e-money frameworks
• Assist with licensing and authorisation applications, including preparing documentation and communicating with regulatory authorities
• Conduct crypto-asset classification assessments and other regulatory analyses
• Monitor developments in EU and international legislation and assess their potential impact on clients
• Contribute to the continued development of the firm’s fintech and financial services expertise
• Support client advisory assignments and relevant business development initiatives
• Collaborate with colleagues across different practice areas to deliver practical and high-quality solutions

  What are you expected to bring?

• A law degree or another relevant qualification in financial services regulation, fintech, compliance, or a related field
• Around two years of experience in fintech, financial services regulation, compliance, risk, policy, or a related area is preferred
• Candidates with less experience who demonstrate strong knowledge and a genuine interest in the sector will also be considered
• Strong legal research, drafting, and analytical capabilities
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements
• A strong interest in crypto-assets, digital assets, fintech, and emerging technologies
• Knowledge of MiCA, PSD2, EMD2, and broader EU financial services legislation would be considered an asset
• Excellent written and spoken English, while knowledge of additional languages would be advantageous
• The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines effectively
• A proactive, collaborative, and solutions-oriented approach
