MLRO & Compliance Officer

This is a pivotal, high-visibility role at the heart of the business, offering the opportunity to shape the firm's compliance framework, influence risk management strategy, and work closely with senior leadership, regulators, and the Board of Directors.

What is expected of you?

• Acting as the designated Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) and Compliance Officer, overseeing the Company's AML/CFT and regulatory compliance frameworks
• Ensuring ongoing compliance with applicable MFSA, FIAU, and other relevant regulatory requirements
• Reviewing and approving client onboarding, including customer due diligence (CDD), enhanced due diligence (EDD), risk assessments, and complex ownership structures
• Monitoring client activity and investigating unusual or suspicious transactions, including the preparation and submission of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs)
• Maintaining and enhancing the Company's AML/CFT policies, procedures, controls, and monitoring programmes
• Updating and maintaining key risk assessments, including Business Risk Assessments, Compliance Risk Assessments, Jurisdiction Risk Assessments, and Sanctions Risk frameworks
• Acting as the primary point of contact for the MFSA, FIAU, and other regulatory authorities during inspections, audits, and regulatory interactions
• Preparing and presenting compliance and AML/CFT reports to Senior Management and the Board of Directors
• Advising internal stakeholders on regulatory obligations, compliance matters, and emerging regulatory developments
• Conducting compliance monitoring reviews and ensuring timely remediation of identified findings
• Delivering AML/CFT and compliance training across the organisation while promoting a strong culture of compliance
• Monitoring developments in local and international regulations, including FIAU Implementing Procedures, FATF recommendations, EU directives, and sanctions regimes

What are you expected to bring?

• Minimum of 5 years' experience within an MLRO, Compliance Officer, or senior AML/CFT position within a regulated environment
• MFSA-approved (PQD) or eligibility to obtain approval
• Strong knowledge of Maltese AML/CFT legislation, FIAU Implementing Procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements
• Valid Maltese work permit
• Experience within corporate services, financial services, investment services, fiduciary, trust, or other regulated sectors
• Strong understanding of financial crime risks, sanctions compliance, and complex corporate structures
• Excellent analytical, investigative, and risk assessment skills
• Commercial awareness with the ability to balance regulatory obligations and business objectives
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Confidence interacting with regulators, Board members, senior management, and external stakeholders
• High level of integrity, professionalism, and independent judgement
