Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO)

This is a pivotal, high-visibility role at the core of the business. The selected candidate will act as a key control function, shaping the firm’s risk posture, advising senior leadership and the Board, and ensuring robust compliance with MFSA and FIAU requirements.

What is expected of you?

• Acting as the MLRO with full ownership of the firm’s AML/CFT framework, controls, and internal reporting
• Overseeing client onboarding approvals, including risk assessments, CDD/EDD reviews, and complex structure assessments
• Leading the monitoring and investigation of client activity, including the submission of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs)
• Maintaining and enhancing key risk assessments, including Business Risk, Jurisdiction Risk, and Sanctions Risk frameworks
• Acting as the primary point of contact with the MFSA and FIAU, including regulatory engagement, inspections, and audits
• Preparing and presenting AML/CFT reports to senior management and the Board of Directors
• Providing practical and commercially sound regulatory guidance to internal stakeholders
• Driving AML/CFT training initiatives and promoting a strong compliance culture across the organisation
• Updating the Company’s Business Risk Assessment and completing the Risk Evaluation Questionnaire
• Monitoring regulatory developments, including FATF guidance, EU directives, and sanctions regimes
• Providing ongoing AML/CFT training and awareness sessions to employees

What are you expected to bring?

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience within an MLRO or senior AML/CFT role in a regulated environment
• MFSA-approved (PQD) with strong knowledge of Maltese AML/CFT legislation and FIAU Implementing Procedures
• Valid Maltese work permit
• Experience within corporate services, financial services, or other regulated sectors
• Strong technical understanding of financial crime risk and complex client structures
• Commercial awareness with the ability to balance regulatory obligations and business objectives
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Confidence engaging with Boards, regulators, and senior management
• High level of integrity, independence, and professional judgement
• Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills
