Tax Assistant Manager / Tax Manager
This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional looking to take ownership of a diverse client portfolio while working closely with local and international businesses on tax compliance and advisory matters.
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality tax services, managing client relationships, mentoring junior team members, and contributing to the continued growth and technical excellence of the tax function.
What is expected of you?
- Act as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of local and international clients on tax compliance and selected tax advisory matters
- Lead and oversee the preparation, review, and submission of tax computations, income tax returns, and tax refund claims
- Ensure all client deadlines are monitored and met in a timely and accurate manner
- Manage and implement updates to departmental processes, procedures, and working practices
- Identify and request the appropriate documentation and information required to complete tax-related assignments
- Develop, implement, and maintain templates and tools to improve efficiency and consistency across the tax function
- Proactively communicate progress, risks, and work-in-progress matters to senior management
- Deliver internal training sessions and provide technical guidance on tax-related matters
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through a deep understanding of client structures, transactions, and business activities
- Monitor local and international tax developments and contribute to the firm's technical knowledge base
- Support the mentoring, development, and training of junior team members
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the overall growth of the tax department
What are you expected to bring?
- ACCA qualification or equivalent professional accounting qualification
- Minimum of 4 years' experience within a tax environment
- Strong knowledge of Maltese tax legislation and accounting standards
- Ability to apply technical tax knowledge to practical client situations
- Experience managing client relationships and handling tax compliance engagements
- Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Maltese and English
- Ability to work independently while effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines
- Leadership qualities with the ability to mentor and support junior team members
